Obituary

Funeral Mass for Sisto Canales, 79, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery by Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Canales died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born May 13, 1927, in Gonzales County. He married Guillerma "Willie" Garza on July 1, 1946, in Gonzales County and later moved to the Petersburg area. He farmed for H.L. Porter Jr. for about 20 years then worked for Wylie Manufacturing Company in Petersburg for about 10 years until he retired. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Survivors include three sons and three daughters-in-law, Jessie and Nadine Canalez of Petersburg, Guadalupe "Lupe" and Sheryl Canales of Hale Center and Samuel "Sam" and Ophelia Canales of Fort Worth; two sisters, Micaela Ortiz of Austin and Gregoria Gonzales of Seguin; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
