Funeral services for J.R. "Jake" Caldwell, 84, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Drew Travis, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Caldwell died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md. He was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Hale County. He attended schools in Lockney and served with the U.S. Army from 1942-46 in World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. After his discharge he farmed and ranched until retiring and then worked doing miscellaneous home repairs. In 1967, he married Lola Newton. She died in 1985. In 1988, he married Beth Barnes Blakney. Survivors include his wife; a sister-in-law, Glynn Turner; a sister, Modena Cumbie; stepchildren, Maryann Newton Dixon, Frank L. Barnes III, Robert A. Barnes and Susan Barnes Campbell; 12 stepgrandchildren; and 20 stepgreat-grandchildren.
