Obituary

Oscar Cabrera, 45, of Lubbock passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview with Father Arsenio Redulla officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Cabrera was born to Joe and Hortencia Cabrera on Aug. 21, 1962, in Plainview, Texas. He married Melanie C. Boyles on April 6, 1988, in Plainview, Texas. Mr. Cabrera graduated from Plainview High School in 1981. He was employed at K-Bob's while attending high school. He attended South Plains College and worked for Wal Mart Distribution Center in Plainview. Mr. Cabrera moved to Lubbock where he worked as a correctional officer for the Montford Unit and also worked at Dillard's department store. Oscar enjoyed browsing through auto trader, gun and coin collection magazines, a hobby that was passed down from his father. Spending time with family and friends was also important to him. Oscar was the Dallas Cowboys' No. 1 fan. He was a devoted father, husband and friend. He was a member of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation Inc. He is survived by his wife, Melanie Cabrera of Lubbock; two sons, Oscar Aaron Lee Cabrera and Andrew Cabrera of Lubbock; his parents: Joe and Hortencia Cabrera of Plainview; one sister, Melinda Cabrera of Plainview; one brother, Arnold Cabrera of Plainview; six nieces; and four nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Luis and Louisa Cabrera and Domingo and Ernestina Cantu. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
