Obituary

COTTON CENTER - Funeral services for W. E. Burnett, Jr. 75, were at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Land and the Rev. Raymond Jones, former pastors of the church, officiating. Burial was in Center Plains Cemetery by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mr. Burnett died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in Plainview. He was born on Jan. 15, 1927 in Newlin and moved to Cotton Center with his family in 1942 from Newlin. He was a deacon and had taught the Men?s Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church for many years. He had served on the Cotton Center school board and was a former member of the Lions Club. On July 25, 1948, he married Martha Sageser in Cotton Center. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kyle Burnett and Troy Burnett, both of Cotton Center; two daughters, Carolyn Johnson of Greenville and Janice Ahrens of Danville, Calif.; four brothers, R. J. Burnett of Wolfforth; Orville Burnett of Lazbuddie; Kenneth Burnett of Cotton Center and Neal Burnett of Plainview; two sisters, Pat Christian and Jan Whitfill, both of Plainview; and eight grandchildren, Amy Ahrens, Brad Ahrens, Brian Johnson, Craig Johnson, Abbie Burnett, Macie Burnett, Cassie Burnett and Darcie Burnett; and many nieces and nephews.
