Obituary

Jeanie Buchanan, 65, of Plainview passed away on Jan. 15, 2013, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Marrow officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Jeanie was born on Nov. 8, 1947, in Plainview to Thurmon and Elene Thomas. She grew up in Akin on the family farm and later they moved to Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1966 where she was a twirler and a cheerleader. She attended Texas Tech University and later got her beautician's license. She married her lifelong sweetheart Mike Buchanan on Aug. 12, 1967, in Plainview. She was a homemaker. She was very active in 4-H and FFA as her kids were growing up and loved the stock shows. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a bridge club. She also loved going to the YMCA and was a member of the Silver Sneakers. Jeanie absolutely loved holidays that involved getting together with her family. She also had a special love for her dogs. Jeanie was a devoted grandmother to her grandkids by attending all football games, pep rallies, basketball games, stock shows near and far! She was the one cheering the loudest. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurmon and Elene Thomas, and a stepmother, Laverne Thomas. Survivors include her husband, Mike Buchanan of Plainview; three children, Scott Buchanan and wife Claire of Plainview, Mandee Engelhardt and husband Kent of Lubbock, and Bryan Buchanan and wife Shadi of Turkey; six grandchildren, Blake, Rheagan, Kameron, Kennadee, Blaze and Gunnar; and sister, Marsha Thompson and husband Matt of Copper Canyon, Texas.
