Obituary
Services for Gerald T. Buchanan, 80, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with Dr. Max Browning officiating. Arrangements are with Bartley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Buchanan died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Luther, Borden County, to Floyd and Edna Buchanan. He married Dorothy Lee Duke Nov. 22, 1951, in Loraine. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in animal husbandry. Following graduation, he was ranch manager on the Cobb Ranch north of Levelland. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the War World II Victory Medal while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed by National Life Insurance, then by State Farm in 1956. The Buchanans moved to Plainview in March 1957. He retired from State Farm in 1996 after 40 years with the company. He was a deacon and an elder of First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Charles and Delores Buchanan of Ben Wheeler, Barry and Lisa Buchanan of Campbell and Kent and Jocie Buchanan of Amarillo; one daughter and son-in-law, Geresa and Ron Miller of Frederickstown, Ohio; three brothers, Raphael Buchanan of Big Spring, Bull Buchanan of Coahoma and Bob Buchanan of Gail; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His parents and a grandson, Zane Buchanan, are deceased. The family suggests memorials to the Garrison Research Institute on Aging, 3601 Fourth Street, MS 9424, Lubbock, TX 79430.
