Obituary

Funeral services for Thomas N. Browning, 78, of Plainview will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at First Baptist Church Chapel in Plainview with the Rev. Kenneth Coates, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Mr. Browning died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Clovis, N.M., to Hollis W. Browning and Venita Firestone. He married Billie Claire Mason on Aug. 30, 1951, in Crystal City, Texas. He was a local entrepreneur who farmed in the Plainview area many years and was past owner of two Coca-Cola plants. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1947 and from Howard Payne University in 1952. Survivors include his wife, Billie Claire, of Plainview; two sons, Hollis Browning and his wife, Susan, of Plainview and Bill Browning and his wife, Jodi, of Waco, Texas; one daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Richard T. Devereaux of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Jeane Browning and his wife, Barbara, of Plainview; nine grandchildren, Holley Browning, Robbie Browning, Mason Browning and Will Browning, all of Plainview, Amy Browning of Dallas, Mary Beth Browning of San Antonio, Dylan Layne of Waco, Angela Devereaux of Washington, D.C., Keith Devereaux of Syracuse, N.Y., and Danny Devereaux of Wilmington, N.C. His parents and an infant son, John Lee Browning, are deceased. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
