Obituary

Funeral services for Mable J. Brown, 89, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in United Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Horn, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at the home of her son. She was born June 7, 1915, in Marlin, the daughter of Sidney Nichols and Johnny Jones. She graduated from Calvert High School and married Lewis "Goodie" Jones in 1939. He died in 1972. They came to Plainview in 1940 and she worked as a janitor at Coronado Junior High School from 1955-85. She taught Sunday school at St. Paul and United Baptist Church for more than 50 years and was a charter member of United Baptist Church. She was instrumental in the organization of Adult Women's Study Club. Survivors include a son, Samuel A. Brown of Plainview; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Salvation Army or to a favorite charity. Friends of the family will be received from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
