Obituary

Graveside services for James Raymond "Ray" Brown, 86, of Plainview will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Plainview Memorial Park. Burial will be by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Mr. Brown died at 8:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in Covenant Hospital. He was born March 15, 1916, in Memphis, Texas, and grew up in Plainview where he attended schools. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in World War II. He was a POW in the Phillipines and Japan for 4 1/2 years and was in Carrigador and endured the Batton Death March, receiving the Phillipine Defense Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal with clasp, WWII Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze star. He married Faye Udell Williams on May 9, 1953, in Virginia City, Nev. He worked for Aerojet as an aircraft inspector for several years in California. Survivors include his wife; one sister, Wanda Carelli of Citrus Heights, Calif.; one nephew, Rick Carelli of Citrus Heights; a niece and nephew, Emy and Bill Deardorf of Plainview; two sisters-in-law, Floy Williams and Lorene Williams, both of Plainview; and two grand nieces and two grand nephews including Bert Deardorf of Round Rock.
