Obituary

Services for Herschel C. "Doc" Brown, 75, of Brownfield, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel in Plainview with William Eudy of Mineral Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview by Lemons Funeral Home. He died Sunday, May 2, 2004, in Lubbock. He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Tahoka. He graduated from Plainview High School and from Texas Tech University in 1953. Mr. Brown served with the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He worked as a civil engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation until his retirement in May of 1987. He married Margaret Box on Nov. 23, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of Brownfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Bridgett Brown of Grand Junction, Colo.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha Brown of Lubbock and Sharon and Scott Nichols of Seminole; one sister, Betty J. McGhee of Plainview; one brother, Dale Brown of Mineral Wells; and four grandchildren, Brooke, Chance and Josh Nichols, all of Seminole, and Nichole Cox of San Diego, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Irene Brown, and a sister, Lu Householder. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the South Plains Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House or a favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Lemons Funeral Home.
