Obituary
Dorene T. Boggs, of Albuquerque, formerly of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012. She was 96. Burial will take place at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Plainview Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held in honor of Dorene's life at 10:30 a.m. the same day at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kyle Brock officiating. Funeral service arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home. Dene Montgomery Boggs was a longtime resident of Plainview before moving with her cat, Boots, to Albuquerque, N.M., to be near family in 2009. She was born the third child of eight to the Rev. and Mrs. B. H. Terrell on March 18, 1916. In 1937 she married A.R. (Monty) Montgomery and had three children. The family moved to Plainview in 1957. Monty died in 1969. Dene and Cecil Boggs were married in 1977. The couple had homes in Plainview and on Possum Kingdom Lake. He died in 2003. Dorene was a career woman long before it was commonplace. She was a "super mom," working eight-hour days with time, energy and high spirits to be the best room mother, Cub Scout leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, fashion designer and high school chaperon ever. She retired from the Hale County Tax Department in 1979. Mrs. Boggs was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Plainview Women's Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW and the Elks. Dene is remembered for the delight she took in her surroundings. She was the best: the best wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She will live forever as the captivating storyteller who taught us our family's history. Dene had a spark inside her that she shared with others in laughter, often at herself. She loved new adventures, new friends, dancing and being the life of the party. She was tickled to have friends of younger generations, and was youthful through her 80s. She often said, "I like people." A woman, comfortable in her faith, she was certain that God loves "us every one." Dorene was preceded in death by her husbands, son James Montgomery, her parents, two sisters and four brothers. Those families surviving her are: daughter Vi and husband John Kessell; granddaughters NanDei McAnally and AnnaLisa Uffer, and four great-grandsons, Nicolai, Joshua, Jacob and Ashton, all of Albuquerque; daughter Nance and husband Harvey Lee of Slaton, granddaughters Deborah with husband Mark Mattes, great-grandson Shawn and great-great-granddaughter Karma of Lewisville, and Victoria and husband Terry Richards of Katy; grandson Mark with wife Tammy Montgomery, great-grandson Dominic and great-granddaughter Darlynn of Sulfur Springs. Also surviving are her brother, Jack Terrell and his wife Earlene, brother-in-law Harlan Bridwell, sister-in-law Wanda Terrell, numerous nieces, nephews and treasured friends. Memorials may be made in her name to Grace United Methodist Church or a favorite charity . Online condolences may be made at www.lemonsfunerals.com.
