Obituary

Vonda Boerger, 59, was born Feb. 23, 1950, to Howard and Bonnie Neuenschwander and raised in Berne, Ind. She was called to her eternal home after a valiant battle with cancer on Aug. 12, 2009. Funeral services will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jeffery Gibbs of St. Louis, Mo., under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Vonda attended Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in Michigan, graduating from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Ind., on June 8, 1973, and was married the next day to the Rev. Gerald Boerger. Vonda will always be remembered as a faithful child of God whose passion was helping others experience the saving grace of Jesus Christ. With joy, hugs and laughter she served her Lord as a pastor's wife primarily in San Angelo, San Antonio and the last nine years at St. Paul Lutheran in Plainview. Some of her greatest joys were as a stay-at-home mom of her five children, and 16 years as an RN, working most recently with Area Community Hospice. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; and their five children, Jeremy Boerger and his wife, Melisa, of Katy, Paul Boerger and his wife, Abby, of Fort Worth, Sarah Smith and her husband, Gabe, of Snyder, Mark Boerger and his wife, Dena, of Fort Worth and John Boerger of Dallas; six grandchildren, Bethany, Lauren, Jared, AJ, Madilynn and Kelsey; and one great-grandchild, Carson. Also surviving, her mother, Bonnie Habegger of Berne, Ind.; one brother, Clay Neuenschwander and his wife, Kathy; two sisters, Janean Kisor and her husband, Steve, and Cynthia House and her husband, Jeff; and 13 nieces and nephews. "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Phil. 1:21). It has been suggested that memorials be considered for the Gospel ministries of St. Paul Lutheran Church, 901 Oakland, Plainview, TX 79072. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
