Obituary

Mary Jo Bitner, 86, of Plainview, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bitner was born to Bedford Kirk and Georgie Smith Kirk on Nov. 13, 1926, in Tipton, Okla. She was the youngest of 11 children. She married Forrest Bitner on Feb. 9, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandma. She loved her family and was a friend to many. She was also a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She will be greatly missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband in March 2005.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Bonnie Bitner of Monterrey, Mexico; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Gilbert of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Jennifer Vitz and her husband David, Jeremy Gilbert and his wife Tiffany, both of Lubbock, and Timothy Bitner of Monterrey, Mexico; four great-grandchildren, Hadley and Harrison Vitz and Jaxton and Harper Gilbert, all of Lubbock; and one sister, Vondel Witt of Walters, Okla.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Tommie Farrell and the nursing staff of the UMC Supportive Care Unit, who went above and beyond to provide a loving environment and compassionate care.
