Obituary

Robby Calvin Birdsong, 62, of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, in Plainview. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Plainview Family Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Doug Yates, pastor, officiating and Mr. James Jones assisting. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Robby was born Jan. 10, 1949, in Prim, Ark., to Domer and Susie Birdsong. His family moved to Flagstaff, Ariz., when he was just a baby. He grew up there and in Santa Rosa, N.M. His family owned restaurants and operated many of them through truck stops along the old Route 66. He moved to Plainview in 1972 and owned and operated the Sands Restaurant and the Congress Inn Restaurant. He later drove a cattle truck for several years before going to work for Wal-Mart. He drove a truck for them for the last 23 years. He married Marsha Dayton on Oct. 4, 1974. Marsha was the love of his life, and he was a very generous and giving man. He had such a dry sense of humor and was a hard worker that many would testify to. He was a member of the Plainview Family Church of the Nazarene where he was baptized. Robby was preceded in death by his parents, Domer and Susie Birdsong; two sisters, Shirley Sue Saiz and Margaret Mae Claborn; and a niece, Carlene Ratliff. He is survived by his wife, Marsha Birdsong of Plainview; one brother, Sammy Birdsong and his wife, Isabelle, of Gilbert, Ariz.; one sister, Mary Ann Saiz and her husband, Melton, of Ft. Sumner, N.M.; a brother-in-law, William Claborn of Camp Verde, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and his three dogs, Mr. T, Prissy Doodles and Penny Louise. The family suggests memorials to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
