Benton, Vera, Cooley

HALE CENTER ? Graveside services for Vera Cooley Benton, 87, of Lubbock, formerly of Hale Center, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hale Center Cemetery with George Carkeet officiating.

Burial arrangements are by Freeman-Abell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Benton died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, in Lubbock.

She was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Hale Center. She graduated as valedictorian from Cotton Center High School and moved from Hale Center to Plainview in 1943.

She worked as an RN in Hale Center, Olton, Plainview and Littlefield, retiring from Dr. Roy Roberts? office in Plainview.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Lloyd Watts of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Bedford E. Buckner of Fort Worth and Barbara Ann Hansen of Little Field; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Two brothers are deceased.
