Obituary

Betty Belk, 83, of Plainview, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, in First Baptist Church of Edmonson with the Rev. Brian Barkley officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A family visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Betty was born April 12, 1930, to W.P. and Vollie Varnell in Hollis, Okla. She grew up in Canadian and graduated from Canadian High School. She attended Wayland Baptist University where she met her husband. She married James Belk on Nov. 15, 1951, in Canadian, Texas. They settled in the Edmonson area. She worked at J.C. Penney's and also ran a cafe in Edmonson. She later became a certified nursing home activities director and worked at several local nursing homes before becoming a consultant. They moved to Plainview in 2002. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Edmonson for 61 years. She was a part of Home Demonstration Club, RSVP and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her husband James Belk of Plainview; three children, Mike Belk and wife Debbie of Plainview, Sandra Seago and husband Kim of Plainview, and Gary Belk of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren, Monica Rodriquez, Brandan Seago, Scottie Slaughter and Casey Seago; and seven great-grandchildren.
