Obituary

Graveside services for Lola Estelle Beavers, 86, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Parklawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Vince Sandlin, pastor of First Assembly of God in Matador, officiating. Burial arrangements are by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Beavers died at 3:57 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. She was born Lola Estelle Merrell on May 5, 1915, in Rio Hondo, the daughter of H.A. and Mattie Merrell. She moved to Plainview in 1959 and was a homemaker and a Baptist. On Oct. 27, 1935, she married Joseph Ross Beavers. He died Dec. 15, 1973. Survivors include five daughters and three sons-in-law, Jo Newton and Myrtle Nead, both of Plainview, Ida and Hiroshi Tanaka of Conroe, Gayle and Austin Lunos of Austin and Martha "Marty" and Jerome Wallingsford of Matador; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Margaret Beavers of Laguna Vista; one sister, Dorothy McKinzie of San Benito, 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. An infant daughter is deceased. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
