Obituary
Funeral services for Gerald Bayley, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lewis Holland and Dr. Max Browning officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Bayley died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, in Covenant Hospital Plainview. He was born Feb. 3, 1923, in Plainview to Cheston Leroy Bayley and Vannie Lee Master Bayley. He married Norma Deloris Harness on Jan. 18, 1945, in Santa Barbara, Calif. He graduated and received his bachelors from UCLA in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard aircraft carriers in the Pacific, as a torpedo bomber fighter pilot. After he retired from the service as a major he flew for the Civil Air Patrol. He owned and operated the Army & Navy Store in Plainview for 35 years. He was a member of the Lions Club for 25 years, a longtime member of the Pioneer Gun Collectors Association, where he taught gun safety courses, and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Norma Bayley of Plainview; two sons, Bruce Bayley of Kingwood and Mark Bayley of Plainview; two daughters, Sheryl Manning of Austin and Barbara Kurtz of Plainview; daughter-in-law, Syndie Bayley of Temple; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His parents; son, Terry Lynn Bayley; brother, Kenneth Bayley; and sister, Dorothy Elaine Sinclair, are deceased.
