Obituary

Funeral services for Calvin W. Barrett, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Cotton Center First Baptist Church with the Rev. J.D. Templeton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Center Plains Cemetery by Abell Funeral Home of Hale Center. Mr. Barrett died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, in Plainview. He was born June 23, 1927, in Earth and moved to Cotton Center in 1938. He married Glenda Barnes on Dec. 20, 1948, in Ropesville. He was a member of Cotton Center Baptist Church, served on the Cotton Center School Board and was part owner of Cotton Center LPG. Survivors include his wife; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Donald and Jody Barrett of Austin, Dennis and Debbie Barrett of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Darryl and Elaine Barrett of Hale Center; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Wesley Johnson of Cotton Center; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Virginia Easley of Dumas, Josephine Schulz and Trudy Downs, both of Lubbock, Wanda and Ed Horsford of Cotton Center, Faye and Guy Bartlett of Abernathy, and Darlene Ashby of Hale Center; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
