Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Stewart Barnett, 98, of Hale Center died Jan. 2, 2015, in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center. Burial will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at the church from 1 p.m. until service time. Ruth was born on July 8, 1916, to Wallace and Minnie Stewart in Hale Center, Texas. She grew up and attended schools there. She married Robert S.A. "Bob" Barnett on October 1935 in Clovis, New Mexico. She was artist/teacher and loved to paint. Ruth loved spending time with her family and friends, and playing dominoes, cards and enjoyed spending time in the mountains. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hale Center, member of the Plainview Art Association, and the Muleshoe Art Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Barnett; her parents, Wallace and Minnie Stewart; brother, Bert Stewart; and two sisters, Irene Massey and Lillian Townsen. Survivors include her two daughters, Scharleen Chastain of Hale Center, Terri Bohler and husband Jim of Muleshoe; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
