Obituary

Graveside services for Martha Lee Barnes, 88, of Plainview, formerly of Abilene, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Plainview Memorial Park with the Rev. Kyle Brock officiating. Arrangements are by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home of Plainview. Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Wood-Dunning Funeral Home. Ms. Barnes died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. She was born March 10, 1922, in Hale Center to Steward and Faye (Hamm) Barnes. She attended school in Hale Center, graduating from high school there in 1940. She attended Lippert's Business College and worked at the Pentagon as a secretary during World War II and later as a bookkeeper for Abilene Savings and Loan. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Survivors include one brother, Wesley Barnes and wife Martha of Plainview; six nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, C.W. Barnes and George Barnes; and a sister, Christine Summers. The family suggests donations in Martha's name to a favorite charity.
