Obituary

Funeral services for Violet Kathan Barker, 81, were at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mrs. Barker died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born March 31, 1920, in Hope, Ark. She graduated from high school in Hall County. On April 3, 1937, she married Edwin Almon Barker in Turkey and they lived lived in Turkey from 1937 to 1942 when they moved to the Providence Community and farmed. They moved to Plainview in 1989. He died Sept. 9, 2000. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Gary Barker of Lubbock and Tommy Barker of Stephenville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.
