Obituary

Funeral services for Imogene "Gene" Banister, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Manuel Rodriguez officiating. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Bartley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Banister died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center Lubbock. She was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Stoddard County, Mo., to Chester and Viola Walker. She married Floyd Banister in 1941 in Malden. Mo. He died May 31, 2001. They farmed in Olton and Kress in the 1960s and '70s. In1980, they moved to Plainview and started Banister Backhoe Services. They owned and operated it for more than 20 years. She most recently worked as a door greeter at Wal-Mart Supercenter. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Wink and Sherrye Banister of Lubbock; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dwain and Wilma Walker of Plainview, and Dennis and Anna Walker of Port Aransas; one sister, Louise Harmon of Plainview; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents; husband; and one sister, Melba Dean Medlin, are deceased.
