Bain, Luther D.

Funeral service for Luther D. Bain, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Drew Trevis, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home.
Mr. Bain died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Plainview, the son of Harriet and Luther R. Bain. He attended Plainview schools until his senior year. In 1943, he graduated from Kemper Military High School and went on to attend one year of college there. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines, serving tours in both the Atlantic and Pactific war zone .

After completing another year of college at West Texas A&M University, he married Emestine Fowler on Nov. 9, 1947.

He owned and operated Bain Furnature until 1974 when he joined The Roberts Company as a real estate broker. He retired in 2002.

He was steering chairman of the establishment of the Hale County Rape Crisis Center and served as first president of its board of directors. He was on the board of directors of Plainview Savings and Loan from 1958 until it sold the board of Hale County Appraisal District for three years and on the Plainview board of Realtors four years during his professional career.

He received several awards from the Realtor board, including the Doug Graham Memorial Award in 1987, Realtor of the Year in 1997 and the Pinnacle Award in 1999.

He was an elder in First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Beverly Bain of Arlington; a son, Lee Bain of San Antonio; and two grandchilren, Christopher Lee Bain and Margaret Ann Bain, both of San Antonio.

Pallbearers will be J.B. Roberts, Gayle Thompson, Bobby Douglas, Jerry Harder, Bill Weaks, O.T. Ryan and Dwain Dodson.

The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and suggests memorials to VistaCare Hospice, 4418 Olton Road, Plainview, Tx 79072; or also to the American Heart Association. South Plains Region. P.O. Box 78714
