Obituary

Funeral services for Melba Dorothea Atkins, 95, of Plainview will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Tim Morrow, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Atkins died Sunday, March 4, 2012, in Plainview. She was born March 14, 1916, in San Angelo to Farrice and Jennie Park. Her family moved to Plainview in 1924. She married Charlie D. Atkins on April 11, 1932, in Clovis, N.M. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Plainview since 1927 and taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. Survivors include her children, Peggy McWhorter of Olton, James Atkins and his wife, Donna, of Fort Worth, Dorothy Atkins Hall of Odessa and Charlie D. Atkins Jr. of Plainview; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her parents; her husband; a brother, William J.
