Funeral services for Gladys Ashby, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lemons Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Foote, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Lemons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ashby died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 1999, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Winnsboro where she grew up. She attended school at Chico and moved to Plainview in 1945. She worked for Plainview Laundry and in 1954 began working for Luster?s Laundry. In 1970 she started work for Ideal Food and retired in 1979. She was a Baptist.

In 1945, she married A.J. Haverty in Plainview. He died in 1957. In 1959, she married William Ashby in Plainview. He died in 1968.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Rogers of Plainview; four sisters, Mildred Pierce, Almeta Lovell, both of Plainview, Vera Williams of Lancaster and Jean Wells of Farmers Branch; one granddaughter, Shara Garcia of Plainview; and two great-grandchildren, Scott Ferguson and Savannah Garcia, both of Plainview.
