Obituary
Ellen Darlene Ashby went to be with her Lord on June 11, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Darlene was born on Oct. 27, 1938. She was a twin daughter to J.W. and Fannie Barrett. Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Cotton Center with Dr. Les Griffin, director of missions at Caprock Plains Baptist Area, officiating. Interment will follow at Center Plains Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. She married Ray Ashby in Cotton Center on Dec. 22, 1956. Darlene lived most of her life in Cotton Center and Hale Center communities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cotton Center. She worked at Cotton Center LPG for many years, Hale Center Senior Citizens, and then Walmart until she retired. She loved her family, enjoyed watching TV and working out in her yard. Darlene is preceded in death by her husband Ray, parents, twin sister Helen Charlene, three brothers, Daniel Barrett, Doug Barrett and Calvin Barrett, one sister, Lola Faye Bartlett, and a great-grandson, Jaden Candler. She is survived by three children, Gayle Black and husband Randy of Cotton Center, Waylon Ashby and wife Darenda of Hale Center and Ellen Jolly and husband Larry of Lubbock. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Carrie Doyle and husband Adam, Erica Durham and husband Clifton, Christopher Ashby and wife Tara, Amber Crain and husband Ben, Nathan Ashby, Natalie Ashby, Cody Martinez and wife Rhonda, Kelsey Jolly and fianc? Keith Sawyer, and 15 great-grandchildren, Shelby Durham, Brittany Jones, Lane Martinez, Chloe Patel, Levi Durham, Norah Patel, Garrett Durham, Alyssa Ashby, Seth Martinez, Riley Martinez, Skylynn Candler, Tatum Ashby, Marin Doyle, Lyra Doyle and Calla Doyle. Also surviving her are her four sisters, Virginia Easley, Josephine Schulz, Trudy Downs, Wanda Horsford and husband Ed; brothers-in-law Guy Bartlett, Ralph Ashby, Kenneth Ashby and wife Sue; sisters-in-law Wanda Grandaw, Hazel Ashby, Sue Wood and Ruth Byrd and husband Alvin, Glenda Barrett, Dean Givens; and many nieces, nephews and friends. The family wish to express their thanks and gratitude to Prairie House and Fresenius Medical Care for their loving care and concern that were given to their mother. Many thanks to everyone who sent cards, came by to visit, and the many prayers during her illness. A special "thank you" goes to her transport person, Michelle, and to Lorriane for the special care that she gave to Mom. They always made her smile. Kasey and Kathy, we don't know what we would have done without you. Saying "thank you" doesn't seem enough, but we appreciate all that you did. We would also like to thank the personnel of Area Community Hospice for the care that you gave to our Mom.
