Obituary

Laura Campbell McDougal Appleton, 93, of Lubbock, died today at her home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the W.W. Rix Chapel, burial will follow in the Pearce Chapel Strip Cemetery, under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors.

Laura was born March 22, 1916 in Hawley to Samuel Bryant and Susan Lynos (Winters) Campbell. She was the valedictorian of the class of 1934 at Estacado Community.

She was a member of the Lakeview Methodist Church, and taught Sunday school for over 20 years. She married Bennie McDougal February 23, 1936, and was married to Ben Appleton, December 22, 1967. She loved her yard and farmed many years in Abernathy.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara McDougal of Lubbock, Gayle Davis and husband Jimmie of Abernathy; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren; sister, Bettye Boswell of Lubbock; and brother, Harold Campbell of Lorenzo also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gerald Campbell, and Bryant Campbell; and one sister, Sue Hood.
