Obituary

Services for Veda Alston, 92, of Plainview, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2015, in the Family Center at Abell Funeral Home, Hale Center, with the Rev. Brad Huckabee, grandson of Mrs. Alston, officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Plainview, under the direction of Abell Funeral Home & Flower Shop of Hale Center, Texas. Mrs. Alston died Thursday, April 30, 2015, in El Paso, Texas. She was born April 7, 1923, to Otis Elmo and Naomi Annie (Wilbanks) McMillan, in O'Donnell, Texas. She moved to Edmonson, Texas, from Lorenzo, Texas, in 1950 and to Plainview in 1962, where she was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Plainview Hospital as fourth floor manager for many years. She married Roy Alston on March 10, 1975, in Amarillo, Texas, and he preceded her in death. She is preceded in death by a son, Joe Dean Huckabee, Feb. 15, 2014, and two brothers, O.E. McMillan Jr. on June 2, 2001, and Archie Vincent McMillan on June 2, 1922. She is survived by a son Tobey Max Huckabee and wife Rose of Morrow, Arkansas; two brothers, Thomas McMillan and wife Myrna of Possum Kingdom, Texas, and Hershal McMillan and wife Pat of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Nell Jordan of Carlsbad, New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Modean McMillan, wife of O.E., of Enid, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Joe Bradley Huckabee and wife Brenda, Tamberlyn Ann Perkins, Kevin Douglas Huckabee and wife Tammy, Darlene Smith and husband Partick and Justin Wayne Huckabee, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
