Allen, Melvin Lynn

Funeral services for Melvin Lynn Allen, 60, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Bartley-Silva Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Foote, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen died Friday, July 2, 1999, at Covenant Hospital Plainview.

He was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Aspermont. He married Carlene Barley on July 10, 1967, in Portales, N.M. He was a carpenter and bricklayer for R.A. Vernon Construction for many years.

An Army veteran, he served from 1957-1959 with a gunnery division stationed in Germany. He was in the Army Reserves from 1959-1964.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth and Sandra Allen, both of Lubbock, Cathy Allen of Germany and Theresa Allen of Floydada; seven sons, Glen Randell of San Angelo, Ernie Randell of Abilene, Danny and Randy Allen, both of Plainview, Ricky and Ronald Allen, both of Lubbock, and Tommy Allen of Brownfield; seven sisters, Loraine Morgan and Nell Shugart, both of Hugo, Okla., Martha Martin of Middleton, Idaho, Jenette Baker of Muldrow, Okla., Ruth Rushing and Bonnie Voyles, both of Plainview and Cathy Sellers of Henderson; four brothers, Lee Clyde Allen of Plainview, Dee and Steve Allen, both of Hugo, Okla., and Ricky Allen of Wichita Falls; 30 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Darrell Randell, died June 5, 1973.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
