PETERSBURG (Special)?Services for John C. Alford, 80, of Petersburg will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church?. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery under direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Alford died Monday, June 23, 1997, in St. Mary Hospital in Lubbock. He was born July 21, 1916, in McClelland County. He married Nalta Bright on June 27, 1943, in Lubbock. He attended Lubbock schools. He graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech University. He moved to Petersburg in 1941. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, and he served as the Church Sunday school secretary. He was a member of the Petersburg Lions Club and the Petersburg school board. He farmed in Petersburg. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Merrijon Newton of Ruidoso, N.M.; two sons, Larry of Slaton and Sid of Ruidoso, N.M.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He moved to Petersburg in 1941 and was engaged in farming there. He married Nalta Bright in 1943 at Lubbock. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. He served as the church Sunday school secretary for many years. He also was a member of the Petersburg Lions Club and the Petersburg School Board. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Merrijon Newton of Ruidoso, N.M.; two sons, Larry Alford of Slaton and Sid Alford of Ruidoso; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
