Funeral services for Z.D. Alexander, 76, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Plainview, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Herman Moore officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. A wake will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Alexander died Sunday, May 29, 2011, in Topeka. He was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Gilmer to Edward and Ethel Alexander. He married Marianne Christmas on Oct. 12, 1991, in Reno, Nev. He spent most of his childhood in Plainview where he attended Booker T. Washington High School in 1955. He was drafted into the Armed Forces on Feb. 12, 1957. He served two years, receiving an honorable discharge Feb. 11, 1959. Survivors include his wife; two sons, DeShaun Alexander of Oakland, Calif., and Demetrius Alexander of Topeka; four daughters and sons-in-law, Milissa Alexander of Sacramento, Calif., Salanna and Timothy Smith and Tasrsha and Wendell Weaver, all of Randolph, Mass., and Antonette Christmas of Oakland; one brother and sister-in-law, R.L. and Virginia Alexander of Plainview; five sisters, Elnora Bishop, Mattie Alexander and Ora Green, all of Plainview, Vacy Hamilton of Clovis, N.M., and Ethel Williams of Midland; one brother-in-law, William Wagner of Brockton, Mass.; one sister-in-law, Annesther Crosby of Dorchester, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
