Obituary

Services for Henry Ahrens, 91, of Olton will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Hale Center with Rev. Michael Holmes, pastor of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Littlefield officiating. Burial will follow in the Center Plains Cemetery in Cotton Center, Texas under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Hale Center.

Mr. Ahrens died at his residence on Monday, July 11, 2011.

He was born April 17, 1920 in Wilson, Texas. He married Louise Schoonvelt on April 24, 1948 in Thrall, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air, stationed in Italy as a B-17 mechanic. He farmed in the Cotton Center and Olton area since 1953 and moved to their farm outside of Olton in 1969. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Littlefield and had served on the Cotton Center School Board and the Mayfield Gin Board.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise; two sons, Wes and his wife Janice Ahrens of Danville, Calif. and Robert and his wife Cindy Ahrens of Hale Center; one daughter, Kathy and her husband Alan Davis of Hale Center; eight grandchildren, Amy and Chris Rowzee, Brad Ahrens, Andrea and Brian Bennett, Jennifer and Rob Sukhija, Brandon and Debbie Ahrens, Lindsay and Matt Grannan, Matt and Jaimie Davis and Clint Davis; five great grandchildren, Gavin Rowzee, Katy Bennett, Jasmine and Nate Sukhija and Avery Ahrens; two sisters, Laverne Gardner of Austin, Texas and Gladys McLean of Corpus Christi, Texas.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society.
