Obituary

Albert “AJ” Bonner Jr., 64, of Plainview, departed this earthly world and entered heaven’s gates on February 1, 2021. Services will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at First Assembly of God in Plainview at 2 p.m. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Bartley Funeral Home.

AJ was born on October 28, 1956 to Albert Bonner Sr. and Josephine Bonner in Aliceville, Alabama. He was a graduate of Emerson High School in Gary, Indiana. AJ joined the United States Air Force and served his country from December 1975 to January 1995 with an honorable discharge as a TSgt. He worked at Taylor County Sheriff’s Office where he obtained his jailer’s license. He then went on to work at the Hale County Sheriff’s Office in May of 1996. He received his State Peace Officer license in January 1999. He also obtained his Jailer Master certification. He was a lifetime member of Texas Jail Association and was on the board for many years. AJ was the Chief Administrator for Hale County Sheriff’s Department at the time of his passing. He was dedicated and had a passion for helping others.

AJ loved and provided fervently for his family. His daughter was the apple of his eye and could do no wrong and his grandchildren were his world. He was a loving husband who would do anything for his family. Although his family lived a distance away they were still a very close knit family. AJ enjoyed playing dominos, cards, and of course, talking trash. He was also a very dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan. But more than anything AJ loved helping others and that showed through his profession and the way he lived his life.

AJ was ill for a number of years, but he did not see death as an end but as a beginning of rejoicing with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and co-worker. AJ will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory is his mother; Josephine Bonner, his wife; Maria “Mary” Bonner of Plainview, a daughter; Remedios Christina McIntee and husband, Aurthur “Art”, of Plainview, two sisters; Linda Joanne Bonner-Colvin of Aliceville, AL and Darlene Bonner-Williams and husband, Roosevelt “Bama”, of Aliceville, AL. Three grandchildren; Uriah Gonzales and husband Jordon, Kelsie McIntee, and Albert McIntee; and two great grandchildren; Jaydon Gonzales and Kallie Gonzales and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father; Albert Bonner Sr. and a son; Albert Bonner III.
