Obituary

Roland McCutcheon, Jr., 72, of Plainview, Texas, passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 in Plainview, Texas with more details to follow.

Roland was born May 8, 1948 in Plainview, Texas to Roland McCutcheon, Sr. and Leanna (Bell, Carter, Sneed).

Roland’s early education was received at the Booker T. Washington Schools. He then became one of the first African American students to graduate from Plainview High School in 1966. Later in life, Roland went on to earn an associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Roland served four years in the United States Air Force and was active in veteran affairs for many years. He also participated in the National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games.

Roland's enjoyment of woodwork and carpentry provided a great career for numerous years.

Before retirement, he was employed as a Paralegal with the 10th Circuit Courts of the United States in Denver, Colorado, a career that he thoroughly enjoyed. Roland loved hunting and cooking and was excellent at both. Prior to sustaining injuries during a vehicle accident in 1998 he was an avid golfer and a talented softball player.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children; Alena McCutcheon of Arlington, TX, Tavia McCutcheon-Gibson and husband, Cornelius, of Grand Prairie, TX, and Roland Cory McCutcheon III of Philadelphia, PA, his sisters; Ruby-Ann Riggins and Kathleen Jackson both of Plainview, TX, brothers; Robert Sneed and wife, Betty, of Fort Worth, TX, Charlie Sneed of Houston, TX, and Lawrence McCutcheon and wife, Myna, of Huntington Beach, CA.

Roland was blessed with 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Roland McCutcheon, Sr. and Leanna McCutcheon, a sister; Johnny Mae Trotter, and brothers; Bill Carter, John “Sam” Sneed, Audrey Sneed, and Larry McCutcheon.
