Obituary

Maria Hernandez, 75 of Plainview, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022, at her home. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00pm, Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George Poonely officiating. A Visitation will be held at 11:00am, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Lemons Memorial Chapel with a Holy Rosary following at 6:00pm. Graveside Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Maria was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico on March 16, 1946, to Jose and Josepha (Moreno) Rosas. She married Abel Hernandez, Sr. in Mexico, July of 1965, he passed away October 21, 1991. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family.

Maria is survived by three sons: Abel Hernandez, Jr. of Abilene, Cecilio “Chilo” Hernandez and Israel Ray Hernandez both of Plainview; five daughters: Carmen and husband Enrique Guzman of Tulia, Rosa and husband Tim Salazar of Floresville, Flora and husband Joe Ferrer of Plainview, Jo Anna and husband Rod Sholty of Lubbock, and Malena Hernandez of Plainview; twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Margarita Rosas Hernandez of San Antonio, Teresa Rosas and Carida Rosas of North Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abel Hernandez, Sr., her parents: Jose and Josepha Rosas; two brothers: Melesio and Miguel Rosas; one sister, Carolina Rosas.
