Obituary

Lee Edward Poague, age 91, passed away on February 18, 2022 in Plainview. Cremation services and burial of cremains at the National Cemetery in Arkansas is pending with Lemons Funeral Home.

Lee Edward Poague was born November 18, 1930, in Muldrow, Oklahoma to James Edward Poague and Luvenia (Kathleen) Faulkner Poague. Mr. Poague was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 60 years, Gloria (Glasser) Poague

Lee graduated from Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Arkansas, in 1948. He went on to obtain a degree in Forestry from Oklahoma State University. Lee retired after 43 years with the U.S. Forest Service and completed his career as the Forest Supervisor on the Lincoln National Forest in Alamogordo, NM. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Lee was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation.

Lee’s passion was his family and music. During the 1950’s and 1960’s he was a professional drummer for western swing bands, including Ben Jack and the Country Boys, and DeWayne Higdon and the Drifters. He appeared on numerous recordings, wrote a few songs, and played throughout Texas and Oklahoma. He loved being on the bandstand. Lee had the privilege of opening for Johnny Cash.

Lee is survived by his daughter, Paige (George) Viscarra of Plainview, Texas, son Robin (Susan) Poague of Redding, California; four grandchildren: Caitlin Parkes, Cheyenne Lambertson, Lauren and Alexandra Poague; and great-grand-daughter, Lyla Stack
