Obituary

Guadalupe Gomez Barrera went home to her heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park.

Visitation/Rosary service will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the Kornerstone Funeral in Plainview.

Guadalupe was born September 1, 1939 in Laredo, TX to Doroteo & Paula Gomez. While growing up her best memories were of her time spent with her baby brother, Chilo, whom she adored. She married Jesus Barrera and moved to Plainview, TX where she established her life-long home. She treasured her five children more than anything in the world.

Lupita worked at Covenant Health Plainview hospital for twenty-two years as a housekeeper and later took on the role of supervisor. She spent the latter part of her career at Central Plains Center (MHMR) where she provided outreach and assistance for people with disabilities and mental health concerns.

Lupita enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking for her grandkids. She dedicated her life to serving and helping those in need. Lupita was a faithful member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She will be most remembered as a servant of Christ. Lupita walked daily and prayed in the direction in which one lived. Her devotion and strength held the family together through difficult times. Guadalupeā€™s life was a blessing to all. Her memories will be cherished and her legacy will continue through her prayerful hands.

Lupita is survived by her husband, Jesus Barrera; one brother, Isidro Gomez & wife Linda of Chesterfield, VA; two sons, Jesse Barrera of Plainview, TX, Martin Barrera of Lubbock, TX; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosa Barrera Lees and Shawn McCarty of Lubbock, TX; one nephew, Isidro Gomez ll; two nieces, Shanna Gomez Harrison and Lisa Shipe; eleven grandchildren, Jarod Gonzales, Amber Lees, Justin Betancur, Mack Dillon Lees, Addie Lees, Jess Lees, Kim Vail, Dustin McCarty, Jacei Barrera, Maddison Barrera, Jayden Barrera; six great nieces, three great nephews and twelve great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Doroteo and Paula Gomez; her son, Gabino Barrera; her daughter, Juanita Barrera Minnick; one nephew, Gustavo Gomez and a grandson, McKenzie Taylor.
