Obituary

Patricia died peacefully at home on May 13, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born to Martha and Leonard Lowe in Ayrshire IA on February 28, 1936, the fourth of eight children. Pat felt so blessed and thankful for her large family and remained close to her sisters and brothers all her life.

Growing up in the small town of Ayrshire IA, she had many special stories with her friends and family. She was well loved by her classmates and was captain of her high school basketball team. After graduating from high school, Pat married her high school sweetheart, Valjean Cook, and they moved to the family farm outside of Ayrshire. They lived and worked on the farm for ten years and had five children, one son and four daughters.

In 1964, the family decided to move south for warmer climate. They loaded their five young children in the family station wagon and headed south. Pat and her family settled in Plainview TX, and she quickly fell in love with the small quaint Texas town.

Pat worked hard to contribute to the family, including cleaning churches, managing a paper route and babysitting while raising her five children. In 1972, Pat decided to pursue higher education and completed LVN school, graduating at the top of her class. She became a well-known beloved and respected nurse, and fell in love with caring for her patients. She was first an OR nurse, then worked for Rocky Johnson MD. However, she was mostly known as the nurse for T. Coe Branch MD and worked for him until the age of 78 years. She stayed close with him and Sandra through her lifetime.

Pat married FG Jones in 1982 and celebrated 39 years of marriage until his death on March 14, 2022. Pat was a very social and loving person and never met a stranger. She valued her Plainview community and cherished many lifelong friendships. Pat loved the outdoors and was often known to be working out in her yard or sitting on her porch in the evenings.

Out of all of her activities and accomplishments, Pat’s greatest achievement was being the most devoted and wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother that a family could ever ask for. Pat’s family was abundantly blessed with her unconditional love, nurturing and complete commitment to her children.

Above else, Pat’s faith in God remained strong in all aspects of her life. She went through many trials and heartbreaks during her life, but her faith never wavered. God truly called one of his children home with Pat’s death. She will be forever loved and missed, and her memory will always be honored as a devoted Mother and child of God.

Her memory is cherished by children Julie Cook, Michele and Larry Shannon and Valerie and Joe Custer; grandchildren Mika Cook, Katy Cantu, Michael Cantu, Nick and Heather Shannon, Colton and Kelley Shannon, Cassie and Robert Vanderford, Trey and Karlee Custer, Coy and Arin Custer & Valen Custer; and nine great grandchildren; and close family friends Sandra Branch and Jorge Sanchez. Patricia Ann Cook Jones was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Billy Lowe, sisters Sue Brockman and Kay Curry, her precious son Jeffrey Cook, her beloved daughter Debbie Cook Cummings and adored grandson Derek Cummings.

Special thanks to Josie Zavala and her team of caregivers who loved and cared for her until the end, along with Traditions Hospice’s very compassionate staff.

Visitation with the family will be at 1pm, May 16, 2022 in the First Baptist Church Parlor, followed by Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 2p in the Chapel.
