Ismael Gutierrez Davila, “Maelo,” was born in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico on July 13, 1949, to Domingo A. Davila and Isabel Davila (Gutierrez). He later married Cruz Luna.

Maelo was someone you could not miss in a room, and mainly because he only had one volume and that was LOUD. He was a very hard-working man and built a career driving trucks with Pioneer for the last 20 years. He received recognition of this throughout his tenure there.

Maelo had a way with people in showing them he cared by making them laugh with his jokes and funny stories or coming to help in a time of need. His heart was so big, he would give you the shirt from his back if it meant helping someone in need. If he called you friend ... you had a friend for life. He enjoyed playing pool, working on cars, and making them go super-fast! He would often get into trouble with his brothers by making donuts in the snow and usually with a screaming sibling in the passenger seat. It was always a good time if Maelo was around.

He had a special bond with his siblings, especially with Alice. He called her for everything, and you could usually find them together. His beautiful spirit and compassionate heart were one of a kind. He will truly be missed.

Maelo is survived by his wife, Cruz Davila; one son, Eddie Cobarrubia and wife, Vanessa of Uvalde, Texas; one daughter, Anna Marie Davila Shaw and husband, Leslie Shaw, Jr. of Amarillo, Texas; two brothers: Praxedez Davila and wife Rosa of Uvalde, Texas and Librado Davila and wife, Ilvia of Spearman, Texas; six sisters: Alice Rodriguez and her husband Manuel, Margarita Pulido and her husband Armando, Paula Brace and her husband Stacy, Elizabeth Muñoz and her husband Roger, all of Plainview, Texas, Yolanda Cortez of Lubbock, Texas, and Dominga Cuellar and her husband Richard of Lockney, Texas; sister-in-law, Eva C. Davila of Uvalde, Texas; seven grandchildren: Brianna, Leslie III, Evianna and Sean Godsey of Amarillo, Texas, Michael, Xavier and Aziel Cobarrubia of Uvalde, Texas. The roles he played in the lives of his family and friends, was something he did not take lightly, and he did it with so much love and care.

Maelo is preceded in death by his parents, Domingo, and Isabel Davila; one brother, Robert Davila, Sr.; and one sister, Delia Davila.
