Obituary
Carolyn Kay Steen Smith, 76, of Lubbock passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Steve Mallow of Geromino, Oklahoma officiating. Burial will follow in the Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A visitation will be held Tuesday evening on August 10, 2021 from 6-8 P.M. at Kornerstone.
Carolyn was born on January 6, 1945 in Clayton, New Mexico to William Howard and Henrietta (Garrison) Steen. She grew up in the Happy Union Community and attended schools in Hale Center. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed working and taking care of her yard and flower gardens. She married J. Bassett Smith on June 14, 1969 in Plainview. J. Bassett participated in Rodeos early in their marriage and Carolyn would drive the horse trailer from Rodeo to Rodeo so J. Bassett could rest up. Her kids were her life along with J. Bassett and she enjoyed taking them to all their events and cheering them on. When she was younger, she loved to play basketball which led her to be a big fan of the sport and enjoyed watching all levels of competition. She also loved watching Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Cheifs play football.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Preston Steen.
Survivors include her husband, J. Bassett Smith of Lubbock; son, JJ Smith and wife Stacy of Midland; daughter, Leslie Francis and husband Tabor of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Bo Kingsland Smith and Trevor Buck Smith both of Midland; and a brother, Earl Steen of Plainview.
