She was born February 17, 1925 to Elster and Myriam Calahan McLeod. She grew up on a farm in South Plains riding her horse to school. She had many Calahan cousins that were dear friends, and their families shared many Sunday lunches while growing up in the South Plains community.

She graduated from Lockney High School and then attended Wayland Baptist College receiving a degree in Business. After college, she and a cousin moved to Ft. Worth to help in the war effort. A member of the “Greatest Generation”, she became a true “Rosie the Riviter” working in an airplane factory during WWII. Wynona then moved to Lubbock and worked as a legal secretary. It was during that time that she met a handsome young Air Force soldier named Helmuth Quebe. They married in April 1947 and began their life together in the Providence community farming and raising their 3 children Myra, and twins Glen and Glenda.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and printed church bulletins, prepared altar arrangements, served on the church council, Vacation Bible School and volunteered wherever needed. Her potluck dishes were enjoyed by all and often requested.

The term “going to Grandma’s house” was affectionately known by her children and grandchildren. She made mountains of chocolate chip cookies, many made with the “help” of a grandchild sitting on the kitchen cabinet while she made them. Thanksgiving at Grandma’s was so special it was rarely missed by any family member.

Her sweet, gentle, kind-hearted spirit endeared her to family and friends.

Wynona was preceded in death by husband Helmuth, daughter Glenda O’Keefe, and brother Darel McLeod.

She is survived by her daughter, Myra Parmer of Santa Fe, NM; son, Glen and wife Tommie of Plainview and son-in-law, Brian O’Keefe of Santa Fe, NM.

Grandchildren Scott Parmer of Santa Clara, CA, Kimberly Bannerman and husband Ian of Santa Fe, NM, Justen Quebe and wife Memoree of Lubbock, Luke Quebe and wife Lacey of Lubbock, Kirk Quebe and wife Grace of Irving, TX.

Great-grandchildren Vivianna and Augustine Parmer, Bonnie and Maggie Bannerman, Erica and Caleb Bright, Jax, Beau and Saylor Barrett, Aiden and Niko Quebe, and a new grandbaby due in August, and two great-great grandchildren Clara Grace and Reed Bright.

The family would like to thank Raider Ranch, Lubbock as well as Donna Moreno, Sue Ellen, Diane, Sunny and Josh of Lometa Home, Plainview.
