Loyd was born in Deaf County, Texas on October 29, 1953, to Loyd Ray Smith, Sr. and Purva Jean (Daniel) Smith. Mr. Loyd Ray Smith, Sr. passed away on September 6, 1985, and sadly was not able to see his son marry his true love, Jacquie Ramsay on May 1, 1987. She was the rock for her husband in all their 35 years of marriage. They made each other laugh and affectionately called each other “Moo Moo” and “Doo Doo”, whether in person or when writing letters to each other. Jacquie cared for her husband 24/7, because she was his wife and, in her eyes, no one else should care for her husband but her. They were best friends and loved each other so very much.
Loyd was a truck driver for 50 years, he loved driving. In 1989, Loyd and his family moved from Plainview to Stanton, Nebraska and in 2001, Loyd moved his family back to Plainview after the passing of their 17-year-old son, Bubba, and started driving the swather tractor for field work , when Jacquie retired in March of 2021, they started doing field work together, beginning their morning drinking coffee. They were inseparable from then on. He loved spending time with his wife.
Besides truck driving and driving the swather tractor, he enjoyed fishing, camping, building model rockets, spending time with his family and his dogs. He loved animals.
Loyd is survived by his wife, Jacquie; his son, Andrew Ramsay and his daughter, Jessica Smith (Tony Vasquez) both of Plainview; one brother, Tony and wife Patsy Smith of Tyler; one sister, Darla and husband Mike Wimberly of Plainview; Brother-in-law, Mikelle and wife Kristi Ramsay of Tennessee and sister-in-law, Linda Adams of Lubbock; three grandchildren: Saria, Genevieve and Jaida Vasquez; one niece and nephew from Tyler and a niece from Lubbock.
