Born to Isabelino & Victoria Perez on January 25, 1944 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Although he was born and raised in Puerto Rico, he later moved to Brooklyn, New York where he graduated high school from Brooklyn High School. Upon entering college he was drafted into the US Army. He was selected to attend the Infantry Officer School and graduated in 1967. José was then chosen to attend Military Police Officer course and graduated. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and stationed at Fort Polk, LA. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooter Badge.

He married Mildred Ramos on July 30th, 1967 and raised four children; Shawn Pérez, Dionnette Snelling, Kathlyn Azua, and Caroline Dillard. They had 53 wonderful blessed years. He was an exceptional father, loving husband and an honorable son.

José was stubborn and steadfast in his belief and love of God. He was selfless with his faith and the word of God. His Bible was never more than an arm length away. Jose took joy in being part of a church family and attended First Baptist Church. He had three goals throughout his life: God, his family and the salvation of his family in Jesus Christ. He was a strong tough bold man with a favorite say for his family. “God bless you and I love you. “ He instilled in his children the love for family. Expressing his love for his family was very important to him. His desire was that each one of his children followed this example. He was proud of all his grandchildren and his great granddaughter and always said a nightly prayer for each one of them.

He had a love for learning. He was very confident in his knowledge about any topic. He could and would debate you over any topic. His love for reading was unquestionable. He always had a book in his hand and more often than not you could also find him in a bookstore. His love for knowledge included watching the History Chanel, the Discovery Channel and the Animal Planet. He often kidded about making sure we buried a remote with him when he passed away. He freely loved to give advice whether it was solicited or not. His lasting loving sarcasm was part of his humor. José was an avid gardener. He absolutely had a green thumb.

He is survived by his loving wife Mildred Perez, his son Shawn & Mary Alice Pérez of Sanger, Texas; his daughters Dionnette & Robert Snelling of Lubbock, Texas, Kathlyn & Felipe Azua of Plainview, Texas, and Caroline & Christopher Dillard of Monument, Colorado, grandchildren, Kyla Blayne and husband Brendan Smith, Billy Joseph Dillard, Jasmine Atalana Dillard, Felipe Diego Azua, Krista Kathlyn Azua, Abbie Eve Snelling, Faith Bella Snelling and one great-granddaughter Rory Blayne Perez-Smith.

José I Perez, loving husband and a wonderful father will be dearly missed.
