Obituary

Jodi Thomas, 79 of Plainview, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. A Funeral Service for family will be held at 11 o’ clock in the morning on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at Lemons Memorial Chapel with Jeremy Gilbert, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Mary Jo Thomas (Jodi) was born on august 29,1940 in Harrisburg, Oregon to Joe Brice and Mary Lee Crump. Jodi married the love of her life Vernon Thomas on March 29, 1957 in Mangum, OK. After moving to Plainview, TX Vernon began working at the fire department and quickly rose to become captain. Jodi and Vernon quickly had four children, Susan, Tony, Kimberli, and Sheila, they were busy! After raising her children for many years, Jodi then decided to pursue a very successful career in cosmetology, eventually opening her salon Sassy Scissors. She loved her customers and even got to work with all three of her daughters; she was so sweet to let all of them practice on her through much trial and error! While all three daughters shared the love of cosmetology with Jodi, she always had a special place in her heart for her only son Tony.

Vernon and Jodi loved their family very much, you could always find Jodi ironing, babysitting, sewing, or cooking for her loved ones. However, her favorite pastime was going to garage sales; she did not mess around when it came to finding a good deal so you had better not get in her way! Jodi loved her grandbabies and great-grandbabies, they were her pride and joy. We were all blessed to love Jodi as Mom, Nana, and friend. Her daughter Kimberli and grandson Colt had the great opportunity to lead Jodi, Vernon, and Susan to salvation on December 11, 2005.

The family of Mary Jo Thomas would like to thank God for giving us a Mom and Nana that was always there for us. She was an encourager, protector, and was always there for us as the best person anyone could ever ask for. We would also like to thank Susan for taking care of Jodi and Vernon for over ten years, her dedication is so selfless and is much appreciated. With her help, the two were able to serve out their life in the comfort of their own home. Jodi is preceded in death by her loving husband Vernon, father Joe Brice Crump, mother Mary Lee Crump, brother Alton Crump and his wife Sylvia Crump, and sister Jerla Bryant. Mary Jo is survived by her sisters Lois Gable and Nelda Scoggins, children Susan Thomas, Tony Thomas and wife JeriVon, Kimberli McClendon, Sheila Wood and husband Bryan. Grandchildren Tonya (Chad), Tracie (Matt), Buddy (Kelsey), Pecos (Ginny), Mandee (Will), Colt (Ashley), Dustin, T.J. (Kate), Skyler (Kymber). Great- grandchildren Destiny, Maci, Sterling, Bronc, Cutter, Quay, Kaci Jo, Madison, Lanee, Will, Kate, James, Rylee, Kalie,Grayson, and Lola.
