Obituary

Gene Truman Johnson was born May 15th, 1928 in Floydada, Texas to Ewell S. Johnson Sr. and Eunice (Steen) Johnson. He departed this Earth on November 21st, 2019 at the age of 91.

Gene grew up in Floydada, Texas and served two separate tours of duty in the United States Navy. His first tour was from June 15th, 1946 until April 9th, 1948 at which time, as a Seaman, he went on Inactive Reserve. Gene went to work for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company on March 14th, 1950. He was reinstated to active duty on December 3rd, 1952 as a U. S. Navy Seabee and left the Navy for the final time with an Honorable Discharge on September 22nd, 1954 as a Construction Electrician’s Mate, Third Class. He retired from Southwestern Bell on March 14th, 1987, after a career of 37 years in the communications industry. His memory will forever be in the hearts of his family and everyone he knew.
Gene married Bettye F. Lasater, of Plainview, Texas, on February 14th, 1960.

He is survived by Bettye Johnson, his wife of 59 years, David Johnson, Lisa (Johnson) Holm, grandchildren Katelyn Holm, Alayna Holm and Tyler Holm, and sister Shirley (Johnson) Doyle as well as many nieces and nephews that will miss him greatly.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, November 30th, from 10:00AM to 11:15AM at Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas. Graveside services will follow the viewing at 11:30AM on Saturday, November 30th, at Plainview Cemetery in Plainview, Texas.
