Obituary

Shirley Faye “Shirley Bird” Cook, 69 of Plainview, went to sing in the Lord’s Choir on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 1 o’ clock in the afternoon on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Plainview Memorial Park with Dr. Jacob West, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 o’ clock in the evening on Sunday at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on June 5, 1950 to J.B. and Beulah Faye Cox in Plainview, TX. She was born and raised in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. She married Clarence Ivan Cook on June 6, 1967 in Plainview. They shared a happy life until he preceded her in death on May 4, 2012. Shirley enjoyed doing secretarial duties and loved working with and greeting people anywhere she was employed. Shirley had a huge heart and would truly empathize for people which is why she was perfect as Lemons Funeral Home’s secretary for over ten years. Shirley was a busybody and was always involved with something. Shirley was involved with PTA even after her kids weren’t in that school. She was part of Band Boosters and volunteered many hours at First Baptist Church and Faith In Sharing House. She sang in the choir there and taught Sunday School for many years. Shirley was known and loved by many people and will be dearly missed. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers: Larry and Clarence Cox; and one aunt: Opal Phillips.

Those left to share memories of Shirley are two sons: Dustin Cook and wife Melanie of Kress and John Cook of Plainview; two daughters: Ashley Cook of Plainview and Becky Gable and husband Kim of Muleshoe; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
