Obituary

On Sunday, February 7, 2021, Martin Gonzales Sr. , loving husband, father and brother went to be with his Lord savior after losing his battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home in Plainview.

Born on July, 26, 1952 in Brownfield, Texas to Tobias Gonzales & Eluteria Bustamante, Martin was born 10 out of eleven siblings. He grew up in Lamesa, Texas where he started working at a young age. It’s all he knew how to do, and he enjoyed it too. He had a couple of different careers that included truck driving, managing a tree nursery but the one he enjoyed the most was being self-employed. He was most definitely a jack of all trades. He loved painting, roofing, working on cars and anything else you can do outdoors. He was hardly at home doing “nothing”, he was always fixing something or lending a helping hand. And if by some miracle you found him not working, he would be on a lake with a fishing pole in his hand or picking calabaza from his garden. Martin loved all of his kids and especially his grandkids. They were his pride and joy, he would always say that they were the ones that kept him going. Martin was known by many and loved by all. Anyone that crossed his path, he helped them some way or another. He had many close friends that he cherished very much. Most importantly his brothers Tony, Toby and Lupe. He will be greatly, greatly missed by us all.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Tobias and Eluteria Gonzales, his son Baby Martin Gonzales, five brothers: Jose Angel, Eluterio, Israel, Enrique, Ignacio and two sisters: Elicia and Belen.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his eleven children: Angie (Joe) Garcia, Martin Jr. (Moncia), Cindy (Albert) Garcia, Lisa (Joseph) Cates, Elicia (Daniel) Deleon, Oscar, Christopher (Lissa), Elozia (Rene) Pizana, Toby (Christabel), Martina (Elvis) and Esmeralda; thirty-five grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his brothers Tobias (Norma), Tony (Oralia), Guadalupe, one sister: Janie Gonzales and many nieces and nephews.
