Obituary

Merline Scott, 80, of Lubbock, formerly of Plainview, departed this earthly world and entered heaven’s gates on September 7, 2022. Services will be held at Bartley Funeral Home on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 6-8 p.m.

Merline Scott was born on February 17, 1942, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. At the age of 11 she moved to Turon, Kansas where she attended school and graduated from Turon High School in 1959. After high school, Merline moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked for Southwestern Bell. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Dearl Gene Scott. On July 15, 1961, they married and shared 42 beautiful years together. Merline and Dearl moved to Plainview, Texas where they raised their family. Merline worked for the Hale County Tax office and was the Deputy County Clerk for the Hale County District Clerks Office for many years until her retirement.

Merline was a Christian woman who loved the Lord and enjoyed the word of God. She was a patient woman who never complained. She also enjoyed chit-chatting with her family and friends about whatever was going on. Family was her main joy. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always found time to do different activities with her grandchildren.

Merline will be remembered as a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Those left to cherish her memory is her children; Danny Ray Scott and wife, Linda, of Lubbock and Linda Smothermon of Lubbock, a sister; Carolyn Woosley and Larry, of Hutchinson, Kansas, brothers; Lyle Smith and wife, Lori, of Jay, Oklahoma and Wayne Martin and wife, Gail, of Washington, her grandchildren; Jennifer Pena and husband, Felix, of Lubbock, Cecillie Vinson and husband, Chris, of Nauvoo, Illinois, Katrina Scott of Hamilton, Illinois, and Chandler Scott of Austin, Texas. Merline was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren.

Merline is preceded in death by her parents; Howard and Bertha (Evans) Althaus, her husband; Dearl Gene Scott, a son; Craig Scott, brother; Dale Althaus, and a sister in law; Lenora Althaus.
