Obituary

Maria Garcia, 80, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021. Funeral Mass for Mrs. Garcia will be at 10:00AM, Monday, November 22, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park. A Rosary will be held at 6:00PM on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Arrangements entrusted to Lemons Funeral Home.

Maria was born on October 10, 1941, to Reynaldo and Maria Feliciana (Cantu) Melendrez in Edinburg, Texas. She married Juan Garcia on January 27, 1960, in Nueces County. He passed away in 2006. Maria enjoyed fishing, camping, baking, and sewing. She worked for Aramark Food Service for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.Maria is survived by two sons: Manuel Garcia of Valdosta, Georgia and Pablo Garcia of Plainview; three daughters: SanJuanita Sims of Amarillo, Martina Rodriguez and Maria DeLeLuz (Nick) Gerrera both of Plainview; four brothers: Luis Melendrez of Hale Center, Rogelio Melendrez of Shallowater, Enrique Melendrez of Plainview and Rodolfo Melendrez of Tulia; six sisters: Margarita Ramirez of Orange Grove, Texas, Ernestina Adams of El Paso, Olga Chavez of Muleshoe, Janie Rodriguez of Lubbock, Irma Chambliss of Amarillo, and Elida Chavez of Plainview; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband: Juan Bautista Garcia; her parents; and one brother: Reynaldo Melendrez.
